Why "is Spectrum down" is a harder question than it should be
Spectrum operates a hybrid fiber-coaxial network. Fiber runs from a headend to a neighborhood node; from that node, coaxial cable delivers signal to your home through a series of amplifiers and taps. A single node serves 200–400 homes, so most "outages" you experience are actually a failure of one small piece of that chain — not a company-wide collapse.
