How today's data is built
Every 30 seconds we fetch fresh outage report volume from public aggregators, deduplicate it against reports users submit directly here, and recompute the trend. Nothing is cached longer than 30 seconds and nothing is fabricated. If the number moves, someone actually reported an outage.

Reports today vs. reports this month
The stat tiles show both. "Reports today" resets at midnight local time and gives you a sense of whether the day is above or below average. Anything above ~3,000 reports nationwide by noon is unusually high for Spectrum and typically means a regional issue in the Northeast or Midwest.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is 'reports today'?
It's a lower bound. Not every affected customer reports — most people just wait and refresh. A rule of thumb: multiply reported outages by ~50 to estimate the true affected population.
Why is today's number different from Downdetector?
We aggregate Spectrum-specific reports (internet, Wi-Fi, TV, mobile) and dedupe against direct submissions here. Downdetector's number tends to be higher because it also folds in tangentially related complaints.
