How to tell in 30 seconds
Look at the alert banner above. Green means Spectrum's network is healthy nationwide. Amber means elevated report volume in the last 30 minutes — something is degraded. Red means a confirmed spike consistent with a real outage.
Then scroll to the Most Affected Cities panel. If your city is in the top 10, you're almost certainly caught in a genuine Spectrum outage — nothing you do inside your home will fix it. If your city isn't listed and the national number is quiet, the problem is local: reboot your modem before anything else.
What counts as "down" vs "degraded"
A hard outage means the modem's online light is off or blinking and no traffic passes. A soft outage means intermittent connections, packet loss, or speeds far below your plan — you're online but everything feels broken. Both show up in report volume, but soft outages take longer for Spectrum's NOC to acknowledge because their monitoring focuses on hard link failures.

If it IS a real outage
- Do not spend an hour on the phone with Spectrum. They already know.
- Log a ticket in the My Spectrum app so your outage window is documented — this is what a bill credit is calculated against later.

Why does Spectrum's status page say 'no outage' when I have no internet?
Spectrum's public status page only flashes on hard, network-side failures their monitoring detects. Node-level outages, drop-cable cuts, and regional degradations often don't trip that alarm even though hundreds of customers are affected.
How long until Spectrum fixes it?
Median resolution is about 2 hours. Amplifier or power supply failures on a neighborhood node are usually same-day. Fiber cuts on a backbone can take 6–24 hours. Anything past 4 hours with no ETA is worth escalating in the app.
