What the modem lights should look like

A healthy Spectrum modem has: Power solid, DS/downstream solid, US/upstream solid, Online solid. If online is off, you'll usually see DS or US blinking too — the modem is stuck in the sync process, unable to complete registration with Spectrum's network.

The fix, in order

1. Check for a local outage. Look at the live map — if your ZIP or state is spiking, it's a network-side outage. Wait it out.
2. 60-second reboot. Unplug the modem for exactly 60 seconds, plug it back in. Watch the lights. If it comes online, you're done.
3. Reseat the coax. Screw the coax cable finger-tight at both ends (wall plate and modem). A loose connection here is a common cause.
4. Try a different coax outlet if you have one. If it works from a different outlet, the wall plate is the problem.
5. Call Spectrum for a truck roll. Free for existing customers. Common findings: bad drop cable, corroded ground block, or a bad tap on the pole.

When to swap the modem

If you've tried a truck roll and the tech confirmed the signal is fine, the modem itself is the problem. Rented modems get swapped free at any Spectrum store — take the modem and your ID, walk out with a new one in 10 minutes. Owned modems need replacement (any DOCSIS 3.0 or 3.1 modem approved by Spectrum works).
