Spectrum Internet Troubleshooting
70% of Spectrum internet problems are fixed by the 60-second reboot. Here's the full checklist for the other 30%.
The 60-second reboot (do this first)
- Unplug the modem AND router.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the modem back in first, wait 2 minutes for it to sync.
- Plug the router in and wait 90 seconds.
This fixes stale DHCP leases, cached auth failures, and most 'slow after a few days' problems.
If the reboot didn't fix it
Try a wired connection: plug a laptop directly into the modem. If wired works and Wi-Fi doesn't, the router is the problem. If wired also fails and the modem's 'online' light is off or blinking, the issue is on Spectrum's side — check the live map.
Modem light guide
- All lights off: power supply failed. Swap at any Spectrum store.
- Online light off/blinking: no signal from Spectrum. Real outage or drop cable issue.
- US/DS lights blinking: signal levels are off. Reboot; if it persists, request a truck roll.
- All lights solid green/blue: modem is healthy — the problem is your router or device.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reset the modem to factory?
Rarely. Only if the modem repeatedly loses sync after multiple reboots.
When should I call Spectrum?
After the reboot didn't work AND the map shows no outage in your area. Have your account number, modem model, and outage start time ready.
