Spectrum Outage Compensation
Spectrum's official policy: they credit customers for confirmed outages of an hour or more. Their unofficial policy: they don't apply the credit unless you ask for it. This page is the exact script that works.
What you can actually get
Credits are prorated against your daily service cost. On a $70/month internet plan: about $2.33/day, or roughly $0.10/hour of outage. Small per incident, but if you request every credit you're entitled to over a year, it adds up to real money and — more importantly — creates internal pressure at Spectrum to fix your local reliability issues.
The phone script
Call 833-949-0036 (Spectrum billing). When you reach a rep:
> "Hi, I'm calling to request a prorated service credit for an internet outage on [date] from [start] to [end]. My account number is [account]. Can you apply the credit today and give me a confirmation number?"
That's the whole script. Don't argue about the cause. Don't get pulled into a troubleshooting call. Just the ask.
If they say no
- Ask for a supervisor. First-line reps sometimes cap under $5 credits.
- If the supervisor also declines, hang up politely.
- File an FCC informal complaint at consumercomplaints.fcc.gov. This works because Spectrum pays administrative costs per FCC complaint response, so a $3 credit costs them less than the alternative. Spectrum's Executive Relations team typically resolves FCC-flagged complaints within 5 business days.
Documentation that helps
Screenshot the timeline on our home page showing the outage window. Save the ticket number from the My Spectrum app. Save the confirmation number the billing rep gives you — you'll need it if the credit doesn't appear next month.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the outage need to be for compensation?
Officially one hour. In practice, reps usually apply credit for anything documented, even 30-minute outages, if you're polite.
Can I get compensation for slow speeds?
Occasionally. If you have documented tickets for weeks of below-plan speeds, some reps will apply a service adjustment. Discretionary.
